Everlasting Glory.

As you no doubt recall, a number of my reviews have been doing double duty fulfilling the requirements of other challenges around the interwebs.  They have all been fun and most have led me to something really special that I wouldn't have come across otherwise.  The Grand Master Review Challenge has been something different.  Where most other challenges offer the satisfaction of participation, the WWEND promises Everlasting Glory.  Real, tangible, eternal glory.   Everlasting Glory.  Is there something more worthy of my every last effort?  Likely, there is not.

Naturally, I've been doing my damnedest to achieve such a lofty goal and last month, after numerous entries into the monthly poll, my review of Way Station was placed on the same pedestal as some really great book reviewers.  Whether I really did the book any justice, I'm not sure.  I am quite happy to have won though.

Later, the same weekend it was called to my attention (thanks Emil) that my review of Dreamsnake had garnered a quote on an ebook website Book View Cafe.  I don't read many ebooks so I'd never heard of the site, but it was flattering nonetheless.  Of course it was also Father's day weekend when the poll ended which meant that my daughter made me a sweet and almost completely unintelligible card.  It was a great weekend.  Links and screenshot below.

  1. Cool, friend! I speak under correction, but I think Book View Cafe may have been the brainchild of Vonda N. McIntyre herself. That's the only place where you can still purchase copies of her books, for example, and some other noteworthy authors, who may or may not be out of print.

And your review for "Way Sation" was great and well deserved of it's everlasting glory. Not to mention the opportunity to chose a book as prize!

Keep up the good work. You never know where the quest for everlasting glory may lead ;)

    2. I might have been mistaken. It seems that Ursula Le Guin is a founding member. That is then uber-cool ;)

I bought my copy of Dreamsnake from them about two years ago, and did not quite enjoy it as much as you did. I think I might have read it after some real gritty novels like "Altered Carbon." I'm very into apocalyptic narratives, so I need to give Dreamsnake another go. Your astonishing HEP score on it has me very intrigued for a second, more thorough reading.

    3. I do think the timing affected my read opposite the way you may have been. I do stand by the score though. The whole time I was listening I felt I was listening to a chiaroscuro painting. The pace and tone were so slow and dark and menacing sometimes...

I will admit that the ending kind of lost some steam (I may have mentioned that) but it was still pretty fabulous.

  3. Oh, and in keeping up with the *shameless self-promotion*, why don't you send the Dreamsnake review over to WWEnd, for potentially more everlasting glory.
