I think it was Matt Christopher. He wrote a bunch of stories for boys, including Ice magic. You read him alot. When I was young I liked Mysteries. Encyclopedia Brown, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Bobsey Twins, Trixie Belden. I thought I'd grow up to be a detective. They always solved everything.
