Three
girls moved across the billiard-table lawn of a great manor house, circling and
swarming about a common center of gravity like gamboling sparrows. Sometimes they would stop, turn inward to
face one another, and engage in animated discussion. Then they would suddenly take off running,
seemingly free from the constraints of inertia, like petals struck by a gust of
spring wind.

The Diamond Age
I had hoped this
weekend to finish my review of Connie Willis’ To Say Nothing of the Dog. Then I hoped to finish it today. Instead, I leave you with this moment of
grace from a book sometimes dark and tragic, sometimes light and snarky. I’m off to more reading!
Also notice the changes to my ever-changing Paragons list. This is by no means final, but right now, these are sticking in my mind.

Oh, this book has so many amazing quotes. I love how lighthearted Stephenson can be. While Snowcrash was my favourite of his, I thought Diamond Age was awesome as well.

ReplyDeleteAs I was typing it I was repeating in my head, "this isn't the best one, this isn't the best one". Oh well, it was a moment that had me setting the book down smiling, so it counts I guess. I love the timing of his lighter moments too.
DeleteI'll eventually want to get back to Stephenson, should I try Snowcrash or Cryptonomicon first?
That's hard to answer. I liked Snowcrash better, and I think it's more fun, so maybe that one.
DeleteI will take that into advisement :)
